Because Success Leaves Clues
I titled this installment "because success leaves clues" as a reminder that we are almost always surrounded by guideposts and opportunities that can lead us to further success. The question becomes how often do we stop what we are doing long enough to take in and process these indicators and clues?
Particularly when we are under stress to "pull rabbits out of our hats" the need for a quick reassessment of what we are doing and how we are doing it, is paramount. When we fail to build in that time for too long, we become professional busy machines - moving at 90 MPH but in essence going nowhere fast.
In an opposite experience, I was working a business expo where the traffic was sporadic due to other conference activity taking place. I continued to be amazed how often people with "booth duty" sat in chairs doing nothing instead of capitalizing on opportunities to build their personal and professional network of acquaintances. That hall was full of people who could potentially help them advance their causes, companies and careers. They chose to sit idly by. One piece of advice I saw years ago for both managers and salespeople was called the GOYA Principle. It stood for Get Off Your A__!
